One system that cools your home in summer and heats it in winter. An air-source heat pump moves heat instead of burning fuel, so it can replace an old central AC, back up or replace an aging furnace or boiler, and lower your energy use. Liberty HVAC installs air-source heat pumps for homes and small buildings across Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, Manhattan, Nassau and Westchester.

How a heat pump works

In summer, a heat pump pulls heat out of your home like an air conditioner. In winter, it runs in reverse and brings heat inside from the outdoor air, even when it's cold out. Because it moves heat rather than creating it, a heat pump uses electricity very efficiently.

Heat pumps come in two main types:

  • Ducted (central) heat pumps connect to your existing ductwork and replace a central AC or furnace setup.
  • Ductless heat pumps (mini splits) use wall or ceiling units in each room. Ideal for homes without ducts.

Why upgrade to a heat pump

  • One system for all seasons: heating and cooling with one outdoor unit
  • Lower energy use than electric resistance heat and many older systems
  • No on-site fuel burning for the heat pump itself
  • Even, comfortable temperatures with variable-speed models
  • Can work with your existing system: pair it with a gas furnace as a "dual-fuel" setup if you prefer gas backup on the coldest days

Heat pumps may also qualify for New York State and utility incentive programs. Ask us about current programs during your estimate.

FAQ

Does a heat pump work in a New York winter? Yes. Today's cold-climate heat pumps are built to heat in freezing temperatures. We'll size the system for your home and, if you like, keep your existing furnace or boiler as backup.

Can I keep my existing ducts? In many homes, yes. We check your ductwork during the estimate and tell you if it needs changes.

Heat pump or mini split: what's the difference? A mini split is a type of heat pump, just without ducts. We'll help you choose ducted, ductless or a mix.

Do heat pumps qualify for incentives? Many do. Programs change over time, so ask us during your estimate and check current state and utility programs.
